About Topeka Farm Fence

Fence crew setting a braced corner assembly on a Kansas pasture line

Topeka Farm Fence is a locally owned fence contractor working the farm and ranch ground around Topeka, Kansas. We build field and woven wire, high-tensile and electric, barbed wire, board and rail, welded pipe and corrals, and farm gates and entrances, and we clear and pull the old fence before the new one goes in. The animal decides the spec. Cattle lean, horses run, goats squeeze, and each one wants a different fence.

Most of the failed fence we get called to look at failed the same way. The end assembly was never built, so the corner leaned in and every strand behind it went slack. We build the ends first, every time, and the rest of the run is easy after that. Wire gets pulled to a set tension with a strainer, and posts go below the frost line with the backfill tamped in layers.

Ground around here is not one ground. Shawnee County clay swells wet and shrinks dry and works a shallow post loose over a few seasons. The Kaw bottoms stay soft and need more depth. Head west toward Wabaunsee County and the Flint Hills, and the auger finds limestone a few inches down. Hedge posts cut off the old Osage orange rows still stand in fence lines all over this county, and there is a reason for that.

We carry a Kansas license and insurance on every job. Work gets written down first: the footage, the fence type, the corner count, and the clearing. We will tell you when an existing fence can be retensioned and rebraced instead of replaced, because that is a cheaper job and sometimes it is the right one.
